The potential issue:

House Fire – there have been a small number of house fires involving some of these units and there is a risk of further fires.

What to do:

Turn the unit off immediately, and inspect.
If your unit is red or green with 2 or 3 outlets, and either; (a) does not have a label, or (b) has a label, but no batch number. Turn the unit off and contact Weiss for assistance and further confirmation to advise if there is requirement for a replacement unit.

Sold at Mitre 10 Mega, Placemakers, and various electrical wholesalers, plumbing merchants nationwide.
Manufactured prior to 2010, but potentially sold after 2010.

The Problem

The heat transfer units have ineffective thermal protection that can, in certain circumstances, allow the motor to overheat and cause a fire.

On 19 June 2014 Energy Safety issued the Electricity Regulations (Prohibited Electrical Appliances – Weiss Heat Transfer System Models FV602, FV603, FV652 and FV653, Produced Prior to May 2012) Notice 2014.

Products included in prohibition - Weiss Heat Transfer System Models FV602, FV603, FV652 and FV653, produced prior to May 2012.

As of 19 June 2014 it is prohibited to:

  • Sell the prohibited items

  • Use the prohibited items
